Sectors of travel and tourism in Nepal has highly been effected by the geological instability due to earthquake following April 25, fuel shortage due to blockade at Nepal-India border, political instability and protest aroused in Terai. Less crowded tourist destinations, empty hotel rooms, fewer trekkers and mountaineers, and less hustle and bustle at Tribhuvan International Airport(TIA); these are all the things we saw in the Nepali Tourism Industry in the year 2015. But with the initiation of the year 2016 various new hopes have arised in the sector of tourism.
Tourism In Nepal And Recent Situation
The views and ideas for the promotion of Tourism in Nepal in current circumstances are necessary. And the government concerned parties and globally recognized organisation have been on that way too. The world famous tourism publication, “National Geographic Traveller” has listed Nepal as the 6th must visit place in the year 2016. Along with this Travel warning by US Department Of state has been cancelled on February 29, 2016 which was issued on October 8, 2015 for the security of its citizen while visiting to Nepal under the situation of devastating earthquake and suffocating shortage due to Nepal-India border blockade.
The total number of tourist decreased by 30% and trekkers decreased by 6.05% in the year 2015 in comparison with the year 2014. For this to be solved on the upcoming years, Government has been working with great effort. Government has implemented a decision since January 2016 to waive visa fee for maximum of six months to attract more Chinese tourists. To enhance the adventurous tourism the paragliding pre-world cup started in Pokhara on 28th February 2016 which will run for 8 days. In addition to this government has decided to extend the climbing permits of 103 different expeditions by two or more years, waiving permit fee for all 801 climbers who had abandoned their expeditions last season following the devastating April earthquake in this season. Governments this action has been told appreciated as it solely supports mountaineering sector and upgrade in the aspects of tourism.
Although the several challenges has to be faced in the past year government and concerned parties are working with great effort to boost the status of travel and tourism as mentioned above.
