The Climate of Pokhara is slightly warmer than Kathmandu with daytime temperature hovering around 15 degrees Celsius in winter and 35 degrees in summer. The monsoon season last from mid-June to mid-September is very wet. The fact is that Pokhara records the highest rainfall city in the country. World Peace Pagoda – Reachable by Hiking / Cycling / Private Vehicle

This is the most famous colossal Buddhist stupa lies on the hill top at the elevation of 1100 m. The shrine on the southern shore of Phewa Lake is a great vantage point for the spectacular views of the Annapurna Range and the Pokhara city. You can get there by crossing the lake by boat and then gently hiking up the hill. Otherwise, you can also go by private van or by cycling which is 7 km from Pokhara lakeside.

Barahi Temple

This is the most famous religious monument in Pokhara. It is known as Tal Barahi, lies in the middle of Phewa lake. The only way to reach there is by boat from the lakeside. This two stored pagoda temple is dedicated to female god. The manifestation of Ajima, the protecting deity representing Sakti.

Devi’s Fall

Locally, known as a Patale Chhango, is a wonderful waterfall lies 2 kilometers south west from lakeside. An interesting tale narrates that a foreigner named David was naked dipping in the Pardi river. Unknowingly, flood gate dam was opened and swiped him into an underground passage beneath the fall, never to be seen again.

Natural Cave

The original name of the cave is Gupteshwor Mahadev Ghupa (Cave). It lies 100 meter southwest from the Davis fall. This cave is believed to be 5000 years old is one of the wonderful and largest cave in south Asia.  Attraction to be found in Gupteshwor Cave is that as you enter deep inside the cave you can see an idol of lord Shiva which has been formed naturally.

Drop of water continuously dripping from the ceiling of the cave are the attraction of the cave. Once you have passed through the tunnel, you find yourself in a huge open space which is really a huge cavern inside and full of enormous rocks, no track of soil found and only small pebbles scattered everywhere. After few yards of scrambling through the darkness you find yourself on the edge of crystal clean pond and from where you can see the awe-inspiring patale chhango falling right to the top.

Seti Gandaki River Gorge

Flowing right through the city, the boisterous Seti river runs completely underground in the most places. Amazingly, at certain points the river appears hardly two-meter-wide but over 20 meter in depth. Mahendra Pool, a small bridge near the old mission Hospital provides a perfect view of the river’s dreadful rush and the deep gorge made by its powerful flow.

The Old Town of Pokhara

Pokhara traditional bazaar is colorful and so are its ethnically diverse traders. It’s temples and monuments can be linked to the Newar architecture of the Kathmandu Valley. Located about four km from the lakeside, the market’s original charm is still alive.

Bindhyabasini Temple

It is the center of religious activity in the old Pokhara town. It is dedicated to the goddess Bhagwati, yet another manifestation of sakti (the female power). People throng the temple especially on the Saturdays to worship and to sacrifice animals and fowls. The park like ground near the temple has a festive look on Saturdays and other religious functions.

Boating in Phewa Lake

The most popular things to do in Pokhara is Boating in Fewa lake, the second largest lake of Nepal, measuring 1.5 km by 4 kilometers, is the center of all attractions in Pokhara. The enchanting lake is an idyllic playground. Brightly painted wooden boats and sailboats can be rented at the lakeside at a reasonable cost for an idyllic tour around the lake. The water is warm and swimming is pleasant. The eastern shoreline of the lake, popularly known as Lakeside or Bai dam, has seemingly endless strip of the hotels, lodges, restaurants, bookshops and souvenir shops. One of the fascinating thing about Lakeside is splendid view of the mountains including the Fish tail (6993 m), locally known as Machhapuchhare, especially when the still water reflects the peaks, creating a mirror image.

Nightlife and Entertainment

There are not much things to do in Pokhara nightlife other than dining. The town shuts down by about 10:30 in the evening. One can still hang out in bars and pubs in the lakeside area. Some hotels and lodges put up an hours-long nightly Nepali cultural show with dances and songs, which provide a glimpse of the cultural of Nepal and the many ethnic group who inhabit the country.

Boating in Begnas Lake and Rupa lake

The lakes are located about 15 kilometers from Pokhara slightly, north of the highway to Kathmandu. Divided by a forested hill lock called Panchabhaiya Danda. The Lakes offer the perfect nature retreat because of their relative seclusion. The Lakes are also popular for boating and fishing.

Mahendra Cave

This is a large limestone cave situated at about two hours walk north of Pokhara. It was accidentally discovered by shepherd boys in the 50s. It is advised to bring your own torchlight to see the stalactites and stalagmites. However, many of them have been carved out by souvenir hunters.

Matepani Gumba

There is a splendid Buddhist monastery on the Top of the small forested hill above Matepani, east of the Mahendra pool. It overlooks a large section of the Pokhara city. One can be lost with time during the chanting Lamas, colossal guardian images of the Buddha accompanying two other gurus and a prayer house with exquisitely carved columns and friezes.

International Mountain Museum

Inside the museum, there is history of mountaineers and picture of popular mountains lies in the world. As well as, the lifestyles and history of the ethnic groups such as Gurung, Thakali, and Tharu and other ethnic groups portrayed and displayed attractively. The museum has also a sizeable collection of butterflies, insects, birds and models of wildlife as well as samples of various precious and semi-precious stones and volcanic rocks.

Other things to do in Pokhara is Trekking

Pokhara is the starting and ending point for many of the popular trekking routes in Nepal. Longer treks (One to Three weeks long) such as the Jomsom trek, Annapurna Base camp trek and Annapurna Circuit begin here. Pokhara also provides shorter (one to seven days) and leisurely treks around the neighboring hills and villages. The popular ones are:

Ghandruk: The trek is 1 Night/ 2 Days trekking, takes up to the gurung village of Ghandruk and offers great views of Annapurna range throughout, the north west of Pokhara.

Ghorepani Circuit: A 5 to 6 days’ trek from Nayapul through Birethanti to Phedi offers Magnificent views of mountain, forests, birds and glimpse of traditional village life of Gurung and other ethnic communities of western Nepal. The trek is very popular for casual trekkers those who have limited time to spare.

Arrival at Kathmandu or Pokhara Nepal (1400m)

Upon your arrival in International Airport in Kathmandu, representative from the office will come to pick up you and transfer to the Hotel and offer you the welcome drinks. Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara or you may choose to fly (Drive 6hrs/Fly25m)

Starting from Kathmandu, you are driven to The Pokhara or you may choose to fly. The beautiful lake city. where you can relax and enjoy the beauty of Nature along with stunning views of Himalayan peaks, like Mt. Annapurna, Mt. Fishtail etc. Enroute between Kathmandu and Pokhara on the way you will see more of countryside that offers greeneries, villages, rivers, farms & beautiful mountain sceneries.


Things to do in Pokhara Nepal Sightseeing

Early in the morning you will leave for the Sarangkot, a hill station for the amazing sunrise view from the magnificent view of mountain which are seems so close. Overlooking the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges in the north and Pokhara city in the south. After spending few hours on the hill station, you will back to continue for touring the city’s standards. Davis fall, locally known as Patale Chhango is an awesome waterfall that flows directly in to a narrow and deep canal which has no end.

Another, Gupteshwor cave (3km long) is located near Davis fall’s, dedicated to the lord Shiva, a supreme Hindu god. From deep into the cave you will see the water endless of the Davis fall. You will also do some boating on the Fewa Lake. Visit International Mountain Museum. You will also visit Tibetan Refugee Camp and see how the refugees keep themselves busy on producing and trading woolen carpets and other handicraft items. Overnight in Hotel.


Drive Pokhara to Nayapul (1.5hrs) and trek to Ghandruk (1940m, 6 hr trek)

Again today, you are driven 2hrs/45km to Nayapul, where you start your trek. This is the confluence of Modi River draining Annapurna base camp and Burungdi River. Walking along the Modi River you will reach at the Syauli bazar. After that you will climb up on the stone steps on to the Ghandruk. Where you will spend your night and from where you can see the panoramic view of Annapurna and Fishtail. This is the home to the Gurung people who are worldwide fame as a Ghorkha soldiers and in the evening you can go to visit traditional Gurung Museum which determine apparently the ancient culture.


Landruk via Jhinu (1565 m, 6 hr)

After descending, you will incline and walk in the narrow trail, passing the trace field and beautiful houses, you will reach at the bank of the Modi River which is flowing through the Annapurna Glacier. After crossing from the unique wooden bridge, you will head up to the Jhinu and descent to the Natural hot spring, where you will take your recover bath and rejoin the same trail in on and cross the suspension bridge, you will trek to the Landruk walking through bank of river with cool air of the forest with peace of mind. Where you will spend your night. It is also a home to the Gurung people. From where you can see the close up view of Mt. Annapurna and Hiunchuli.


Pothana (1900m, 5hr)

The trek begins downhill and offers views of the Annapurna mountain range. You will pass more Gurung villages allowing you to see the huge farming communities in which they live in. Passing on, you will reach the villages of Pothana. Here, you will spend your night. From here, you can enjoy the first view of Pokhara.


Phedi- Drive to Pokhara (915m, 3hrs trek, 30min drive)

Very soon the trek is close to end. From Pothana, you will descend to the Phedi. Along the way you will pass rice fields and small cottages. After you reached at Phedi, you are driven back to the Pokhara, the beautiful lake city, where you can experience the different activities like Paragliding, Ultra-light, Pokhara sightseeing, Cycling etc.


Exploration Day in Pokhara

After your breakfast, you again drive for sunrise view in Sarangkot and go for sightseeing tour over Seti Gandaki River Gorge, old town of Pokhara, Bindhyabasini temple, Mahendra Cave, Matepani Gomba and hidden lake of Pokhara, Begnas and Rupa lake.


Drive back to Kathmandu

You will return back to Kathmandu.

We enjoyed a lot while sightseeing all the local attractions of Pokhara and few days trek. The weather was mild and moderate with clear weather. This trip was true and interesting, Loved every moment of the trip. Guide had good English and driving was smoothly.

It was a good day trip to discover the city. We visited major attractions like driven World peace stupa in the morning, Tibetan refugee camps, Davi’s fall, Gupteshwor Cave, Mountain museum etc. Trekking in the Himalaya was also great experience. We were very lucky to see Annapurna range. Thank you stunning adventure who made our trip memorable.
